How does Slush-It! work?

Slush-It! takes advantage of a unique natural phenomenon called supercooling.  The Cool Capsule controls the cooling rate of the beverage to allow supercooling to occur predictably.  The Slush-It! Does Slush-It! work with diet drinks?

Yes, in fact the beverage in the video above is Diet 7up.  Non-diet drinks (Coke, Pepsi, etc) work extremely well with Slush-It! but many diet beverages the results can be unpredictable and sometimes unsatisfactory for some customers.  The most common problem is that diet beverages will freeze before the sticker fully changes color.  When they don't freeze prematurely and they do turn to slush when opened, it can be difficult to remove the slush from the beverage container as diet slush tends to be a lot more "chunky" than slush from regular soft drinks.  This is especially true with glass bottles and aluminum cans.  For more detailed information about what beverages work best with Slush-It!, click here.

How long does it take my beverage to be ready?

It depends.  Usually about 1 1/2 to 3 hours but it can take as little as 45 minutes and as long as 6 hours.  Factors such as starting beverage temperature, freezer temperature, beverage type, and beverage container all have a dramatic effect on how long it actually takes to work.  This is why the Slush-It! Once my beverage is ready, how long before it gets too cold and freezes?

As explained in the answer to the previous question, this also depends on several factors. For most beverages, the time between when the beverage is ready and when the beverage starts to freeze, or the “ready window”, lasts at least 1 hour but is usually more like 2 hours.  However, if your freezer is very cold or has excessive air flow, the ready window will be shorter.  Diet carbonated drinks generally have a much shorter ready window (sometimes as short as 15 minutes).  Beverages in plastic bottles smaller than 20oz also generally have a shorter ready window.  Regular soda in 12oz cans and 12oz glass bottles behave normally as do beverages in plastic bottles greater than 20oz.  This underscores the importance of the Cool Capsule.  Our testing has shown that the ready window is 2-5 times longer using the Cool Capsule vs. placing the beverage in the freezer without it.  For more detailed information about factors that can influence the ready window, click here.

Are the Slush-It! Stickers reusable?

Yes!  By following the instructions provided with the product, each Slush-It! Sticker can be reused at least 10-20 times.  In fact, some customers have reported many more than 20 uses!

How much is shipping and handling?

Our shipping and handling charges are based on the actual cost for us to fulfill your order and ship it to you.  In other words, we don't make any profit on shipping.  Our shipping and handling charges for the first item range from $1.79 (5-Pack of Slush-It! Stickers) to $4.49 (Double Slush-It! Pack).  Charges for additional items range from $0.00 (5-Pack of Slush-It! Stickers) to $2.25 (Large or Double Slush-It! Pack).  Shipping is free on orders over $50.  For orders (1-5 items) placed from Canada we charge a flat rate of $10 USD for the first item and $1 USD for each additional item. For orders (1-5 items) placed from Mexico we charge a flat rate of $12 USD for the first item and $1.50 USD for each additional item. For orders (1-5 items) placed from any other country we charge a flat rate of $16 USD for the first item and $2 USD for each additional item. A refund may be provided if actual charges are less. For international orders with more than 5 items, if actual charges exceed the amount charged we may request an additional payment via paypal before we fulfill your order.  

How long does shipping take?

We generally ship all of our orders the next business day via UPS, UPS innovations, or USPS.  Once the item is shipping, transit time is generally 3-5 days in the US (except Alaska and Hawaii). International shipping is generally longer.

Can I make my own slushy beverage without Slush-It!?

It is certainly possible to supercool beverages without Slush-It! (try a search for supercooling on YouTube to see some examples of successes and failures if you are interested).  However, if you are not using Slush-it!, it usually takes A LOT of trial-and-error "experiments" to figure out exactly how to supercool beverages in your specific situation.  Without Slush-it!, it can also be quite unpredictable and messy due to explosions or leaks that can occur from leaving the beverage in the freezer too long.  This is because there are many factors that can have a big effect on whether the supercooling phenomenon will actually occur or how long it will take for your beverage to be ready. These factors include: beverage type (e.g. regular or diet), beverage container (e.g. aluminum can or plastic bottle), freezer and refrigerator temperatures, and even where you place your beverage in the freezer.

This is why our customers find Slush-It! valuable.  The Slush-It! How is Slush-It! different than a "Slush Mug"?

There are several key drawbacks with "Slush Mugs": 

First, "Slush Mugs" require permanent freezer space since the "core" of the mug must be placed in the freezer overnight (12+ hours!) before using.  Plus, once you "use" the mug you must wait another 12+ hours before it is ready to be used again.  Slush-It! need only be placed in the freezer 1-2 hours before you want your slushy beverages ready (can be longer in certain cases). 

Second, "Slush Mugs" require you to stir the beverage for up to 15 minutes to obtain a good slushy consistency (we did some tests).  In addition to all the time spent stirring rather than doing something else, any beverages with carbonation are left completely flat!  Slush-It! does not require any stirring since the beverage immediately turns to slush the moment you open it (which makes for a visually stunning effect at parties and other gatherings).  Also, because of this immediate transformation from liquid to slush, carbonated beverages remain fully carbonated and "fizzy"!

Finally, "Slush Mugs" are quite large and cumbersome to hold yet each only holds up to 12oz of liquid.  The large Cool Capsule holds most beverages up to 24oz.  Plus, once the beverage is removed from the Cool Capsule, it can be consumed directly from the beverage's container or it can be poured into any glass, cup, or mug of your choice!
